Uniform

Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:

  • makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;

  • promotes a sense of pride;

  • engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school;

  • is practical and smart;

  • identifies the students with the school;

  • prevents children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class;

  • is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money;

  • is designed with health and safety in mind.

All pupils in our primary and lower secondary class (Puffer Fish, Seahorse and Hammerhead) wear the following uniform:

  • Suitable trousers or jeans (boys or girls)

  • White t-shirt; round or polo neck with school logo on (available to order from school)

  • Navy sweatshirt, fleece or cardigan with school logo on (available to order from school)

  • Change of clothes for PE.

PE kit:

  • Plimsolls or trainers

  • PE shorts or tracksuit bottoms

  • A change of t-shirt for hygiene reasons

  • Two-piece swimsuits are not permitted for swimming sessions

  • Any PE kit should be brought to school on a Monday morning and may be taken home on Friday afternoon.

All items of clothing – including shoes and wellingtons, should be clearly marked with the child’s name.

Jewellery

On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school.

The exceptions to this rule are:

  • earring studs, in pierced ears

  • small objects of religious significance, such as a crucifix on a chain or Sikh Kara

We ask the children to remove these objects during PE, games and swimming for health and safety reasons.

The school advises parents who wish their children to have their ears pierced to do so at the beginning of the school holidays so that there is more time for healing.

Medical identification bracelets may be worn by children who have significant medical problems eg. Diabetes or epilepsy.

Hair

Pupils with long hair should tie it back for safety reasons; and to minimise the possible spread of head lice.

Footwear

The school wants all children to grow into healthy adults. We believe that it is dangerous for children to wear shoes that have platform soles or high heels, especially given the number of stairs in our school.

In winter time, winter shoes or boots may be worn but fashion boots like Ugg boots are not allowed to be worn in school as children should have suitable footwear protection. Children coming to school during the winter months with wellington boots should bring their normal school shoes to change into.

Important points to note:

  • Ripped jeans are not allowed in school

  • Shorts must not be mini-shorts or cropped shorts

  • Short skirts or dresses must not be worn

  • Plunging tops cannot be worn

  • Hats / caps must not be worn inside the school building

  • Hooded tops – hoods must never put up inside the school building

  • False nails or eyelashes are not permitted until year 11

  • Makeup is not permitted until year 10 and must always be kept to a minimum.

  • Offensive slogans on clothing is not permitted
