SMSC & British Values

At Seadown School we actively promote the fundamental British values (democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for different faiths and beliefs) as part of their Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development. These values sit alongside our school values (Respect, Cooperate, Curiosity, Resilience) and prepare pupils for life in modern Britain and is embedded through the curriculum, assemblies, and the school ethos.

How we promote British Values via SMSC:

Democracy: Implementing a school council, allowing pupils to voice opinions, and holding mock elections to teach about democratic processes.

·         Rule of Law: Teaching pupils the importance of rules and laws, including the school behaviour policy, and understanding the consequences of breaking them.

·         Individual Liberty: Promoting resilience, self-esteem, and self-confidence while encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their behaviour.

·         Mutual Respect and Tolerance: Fostering an understanding of different cultures, religions, and beliefs to encourage respect.
