Wellbeing at Seadown

Intent:

At Seadown the wellbeing and mental health of our pupils is paramount. We aim to foster a culture of positive mental health for all our pupils and staff. Wellbeing is at the core of everything we do at Seadown school. We recognise the importance of pupils being ready to learn and helping them get to the right mindset to be able to achieve their full potential.

Implementation:

To achieve our wellbeing intent, we implement a comprehensive framework that encompasses multiple aspects of wellbeing. We will provide a safe and inclusive environment where pupils feel valued, respected and that they belong.

What this looks like:

We support our pupil’s positive mental health through a range of methods:

  • Jigsaw PSHE curriculum

  • Life Skills curriculum

  • Positive Behaviour policy and our reward systems

  • Daily Theraplay opportunities and specific interventions for individual pupils

  • Friday feel good clubs

  • Student leadership

  • Interventions such as ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support), PAWS (School Therapy dog), horse riding, personal training, forest school, swimming, trampolining and boxing

  • Support via our Pastoral Team

  • External providers who deliver play therapy and music therapy.

Impact:

Enhanced Emotional Wellbeing: Our initiatives will support the emotional well-being of pupils, fostering a positive and supportive environment. Pupils will develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and coping mechanisms, leading to increased happiness, reduced stress levels, and improved mental health.

Stronger Relationships: By promoting positive relationships, respect, and empathy, our school community will thrive. Pupils will develop strong connections with peers, teachers, and support staff, creating a sense of belonging, reducing isolation, and enhancing social skills.

Lifelong Wellbeing Skills: Our focus on well-being will equip pupils with lifelong skills and habits that extend beyond their time at school. They will develop the knowledge and tools necessary to lead healthy, balanced lives, maintaining their wellbeing into adulthood.

We measure the impact of our wellbeing strategies in a variety of ways including through our PIES scores (physical, intellectual, emotional and social) which a variety of staff contribute to for each pupil, through behaviour incidents/records and staff/pupil assessments and surveys.
