Exams

Our highly trained teachers support our pupils to be able to achieve recognised qualifications by the time the leave our school in year 11. We provide a supportive environment where each pupil’s needs are recognised and their talents nurtured.

Functional Skills

By the end of Year 11, pupils are set to obtain Pearson Functional Skills qualifications in English & Mathematics from Entry 1 to Level 2.  They are graded as pass or fail, with Level 2 equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (C) and Level 1 equivalent to GCSE grades 1-3.

·  Entry Levels 1, 2, and 3: These are foundational levels focusing on basic skills for daily life. They are aimed at beginners and are below GCSE standard.

·  Level 1: Roughly equivalent to GCSE grades 1-3 (previously D-G). It indicates the ability to apply skills in familiar, everyday situations.

·  Level 2: Equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 or higher (previously Grade C or above). This is widely accepted by employers and colleges as a core qualification for work and further education

Our pupils can progress from Entry Level 1 in year 9/10 through to Level 2 by the end of Year 11.

Access arrangements and reasonable adjustments are considered and applied for on a case by case basis.

Depending on the qualification, exams may include written, oral or online examinations. All of our exams are invigilated to maintain fairness and integrity.

We plan to expand our exam/curriculum offer to Digital (IT) from September 2026. Functional Skills qualifications are practical qualifications designed to improve everyday skills for work and life.

The school can also make provision for students to sit a GCSE in Maths and English.
