At Seadown School, we are committed to developing pupil understanding and appreciation of diversity, celebrating what we have in common, and promoting respect for the different protected characteristics as defined in law.
T he Equality Act became law in 2010. It covers everyone in Britain and protects people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. Everyone in Britain is protected. This is because the Equality Act protects people against discrimination because of the protected characteristics that we all have. Under the Equality Act, there are nine Protected Characteristics:

Assemblies, which are reactive to current global, national, local, and school events and highlight important events and their links to the protected characteristics

Promotion of the British Values (democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs) throughout school life

Our PSHE and RE curriculum, actively promoting inclusion and respect

Week monitoring of our behaviour and safeguarding incidents with categories including bullying, racial, and homophobic incidents – where any incidents are seen as an opportunity to reflect, learn, and make better choices next time
